Medication is not a: Cure but it can help decrease u symptoms . Usually   ssri is a good choice.

Too many variables: There are so many variables, from mild to moderate to severe brain injury, time in post traumatic amnesia, structural damage, etc. It is difficult to say even when we have the whole clinical picture, much less without a specific patient in mind. This is still such a developing area of medicine, its just way to hard to say with any certainty. Sorry i can not be more specific, but i hope that helps!

More damage: Marijuana use causes brain damage on its own.  Using it when your brain is already fragile is an extremely bad idea.

Sort of...: Usually the defecits are stable, they don't change.  However, things like memory and attention can be effected by stress or mood states to when you are calm, the defecits may seem better but on a stressful and anxious day, they may seem much worse.

OCD is an uncommon, : but well-documented, consequence of TBI. The pattern of OCD, I.e., the types of obsessions &amp; compulsions, are very similar amongst patients with TBI, whether they have mild TBI &amp; normal MRI's or moderate &amp; severe TBI with bruising of the the fronto-temporal cortex, subcortical structures (caudate nucleus) or both on their MRI's. Just one more thing for which you need therapy &amp;, maybe, medication.

Brain damage: Tbi- traumatic brain injury is when the brain is injured from a strike, fall, accident, explosion or any other concussive injury to the head injuring the underlying soft brain tissue.  They can be mild from concussion to severe such as persistent vegetative state.

No: A person can have full recovery.  The best time to tell what will be permanent is those symptoms still present after one year.  A few predictors of permanent damage is how much memory is lost and the length of being unconcious or if there was lack of oxygen for a prolonged time.

Accepted Answer

Depends on severity: Mild brain injuries can heal and be technically reversed. However, moderate to severe injuries often will have significant structural damage to neuronal structures that just will not heal correctly and once this occurs, there is very little we can do to reverse that damage. Most of the recovery then will be on improving function with the new normal cognitive baseline.
