Massage, rehab: Strains involving muscle require "tincture of time".  Massage, topical analgesics, oral nsaids (naprosyn, motrin), and gental range of movement as well as stretches will help.  If this significantly limits activity, or increases with deep breath, should see his doctor.

Rotator Cuff Repair: It sounds like you are describing a rotator cuff tear, where the tendon has torn off of the bone, causing pain and weakness. We usually perform a shoulder scope (arthroscopy) through 2-3 small incisions, and repair the tendon back to the bone. It takes 45min to 1.5 hours and takes about 3 months to heal.

Maybe muscle or nerv: You may have pinched a nerve, pulled muscle, and early in such an injury ice will help but now you need to use heat. You may need to see your physician, and even see physical therapy, and get imaging. You can try Tylenol (acetaminophen) or over-the-counter Advil or Aleve , if you are comfortable with that

Heal w/scar: A 'torn' muscle does heal but depending on the size of the tear and location it generally heals w/ fibrous tissue similar to scar tissue.Muscle does not reform itself.Muscle can hypertrophy(get bigger) and make up for the defect created but not re-create the muscle that was torn or lost.
