i suffer from migraines and pass out. i am on topamax, (topiramate) and migraine medication.... any recomendations?

Misdiagnosis?: Migraine equivalents that affect the basilar artery system can cause imbalance and incoordination. In addition they can can cause confusion, dysarthria - inability to speak coherently, paresthesias of the face, dizziness, nausea, and double vision.  The fact that you pass out warrants further evaluation - is it truly loss of consciousness or simply falling due to incoordination?

Not recommended: The combination of topamax (topiramate) and opiates increases the risk of CNS depression and cognative impairment.

Yes: These meds could be taken together, I am not aware if any studies have been done studying these meds together and if that increases rates of abstinance from alcohol. But in theory they may complement each other. I will emphazie however that medications alone are rarely if ever enough to stop problem drinking but can be helpful if used with psycosocial support such as aa or counseling.

Versatile: Is indicated to treat epilepsy, but mainly a second line or adjunctive agent, and also useful to prevent migraine headaches.  Has several adverse effects including: kidney stones, narrow angle glaucoma, metabolic acidosis, heatstroke in kids, paresthesias, slowing of speech and cognition, drowsiness.
Occasion usage in psychiatry.

Pharmacist: Your pharmacist can be very helpful in answering this important question as he/she has access to up to date information on medicine interactions. I believe that Viagra does not interact with topamax, but would double check this with your pharmacist.

i'm taking 100mg of topamax (topiramate) and its not working anymore. lortab 5 isn't working now either. i don't want more medication. what options do i have?

It depends: I'm sorry, but i'm not clear from your question or supporting information what's being treated with topomax & lortab.  Understanding that is needed before discussing any "options."  however, i'm sure your own doctors know the conditions they're trying to help you with, as well as knowing you much better than we can online.  Please tell them you don't feel  your meds are working, so they can help.

Can but unlikely: Side effects from topamax (topiramate) are more prevalent if one is dehydrated. Keep well hydrated and your side effects will be mitigated.

can the medication topamax (topiramate) cause palinopsia? i'm on it  for frequent migraines and have started noticing trailing in vision and sensitivity to light.

See eye doctor.: I do not think that palinopsia or having trailing images, as a specific complaint, is listed as a known complication.  This medication, however excellent, has been known to cause significant eye problems that can be irreversible.  Such things as narrow angle glaucoma can also occur.  I would ask for the pressure in your eyes to be checked now and see your eye doctor ASAP.
