You may be a rx for a topical retinoic acid derivative, the oral contraceptive pill (if you're female), topical clindamycin, a systemic antibiotic such as tetracycline, or a dermatology referral for possible isotretinoin. You can't: Anybody offering you something to remove acne scars is scamming you. Only a dermatologist can do this, using microsurgery, lasers, fillers, and/or abrasion. I'm sorry the scars happened in the first place -- all acne is treatable nowadays. Some men -- tommy lee jones, jet li, casey pachall (photo) have kept their scars for the "tough guy" look. It's a personal choice.

No no no!: Acne medications can be very irritating to open wounds.  A better option (in addition to a mild soap &amp; warm water) is an antibiotic ointment that's specifically used to treat open wounds along with daily wound care and protective bandaging until the wounds heal. Scientific Rx: Acne is a chronic disease that eventually remits as a person ages. I was able to stop taking rx when i was 50. In the meantime, topical benzoyl peroxide is your first treatment. If this fails, your personal physician can add topical clindamycin, topical tretinoin, a systemic antibiotic, or one of the big guns. Manage the disease until it remits -- you owe it to yourself.

None of them: None of the over-the-counter acne treatments does much good. I start with topical Clindamycin with or without a retinoic acid-based compound. If I do not get a good result in two weeks, i add a systemic antibiotic appropriate to the person. Dermatologists are allowed to use the big guns. Nobody nowadays needs to have bad acne -- life's hard enough without it. Good luck.
