my mouth hurts. how do i tell if its my tonsils?

See an ENT Doc: Your mouth contains many structures that can cause pain.  The tongue, the pharynx (back of the mouth) and of course the tonsils.  You obviously need a diagnosis.  The specialty that has expertise in this anatomic location is either an ENT surgeon or an oral surgeon.  Of course, you can look in the mirror and if you see 2 large red pussy structures, it is tonsillitis.  You still need a diagnosis.

i have randomly looked into my boyfriends mouth and seen that his tonsils are enlarged and stick out a lot compared to mine. he said they are not painful. should he get them checked out?

Not particularly: Unless you actually look at thousands of sets of tonsils over many years you get no real sense of what is normal. If they don't bother him I would not make an appointment to have them checked. He might bring the issue  when he goes in for other issues.

Just one: Without an exam, it is hard to say.  But what you are seeing is most likely one single tonsil that has two large areas or you might actually have a growth on your tonsil.  Because it is not normal looking, you really should have it checked out by an ENT specialist, who is an expert on tonsil problems.

both tonsils touching in the middle of my mouth should they be removed.

Enlarged tonsils: If tonsils are causing airway or eating problems, they should be evaluated by an Ear/Nose/Throat specialist.  The same is true for growing children, as enlarged tonsils can interfere with dents-facial growth.  We can't make a decision for you in this forum.  We can, however, strongly suggest that you have your tonsils and adenoids examined.

i just opened my mouth and saw a lot of white stuff under my tonsils to the left of my epiglottis ?

Gargle: with a LOT of warm salt water mixed with peroxide and spit it out. 
If any pain or headache or fever, get checked for strep infection.

i wake up in the middle of the night felt like i can t breath through the mouth, can it be my tonsils are too big? thanks

Sleep apnea?: Do you snore? Do you wake up with mouth dry? Or maybe you have obstructive sleep apnea and you wake up when your breathing is blocked. If you don't know the answer you may need a sleep study to figure out what is.

Totally normal: Sounds like you have a Mallampati Grade 1 airway.  Makes you easy to intubate.

how long will it take for the horrible taste in your mouth to be gone after tonsil surgery?

Up to a week...: The taste can be caused from several factors. The better that you can stay hydrated and keep your mouth clean, the faster the taste will go away.

Worth an exam: These glands can become infected and can become enlarged by tumors too. Have an exam just to be safe. Avoid worry that can take up good energy and time w/out any benefit.

so if i put a bottle in my mouth whole and i tilted my head back would it go past the tonsils or would you just cough it back up?

: Why are you doing what you are proposing? You are taking the risk of hurting yourself. If it is your intention to harm yourself, you need to seek counseling.
