Paresthesis : Sounds like sensory issues and you want to know the cause or if its serious. The best way to find out is to see a neurologist and then testing can rule out serious causes. Some people have burning and tingling and that's all it is but best to get it checked.

Circulation problem: From your description of the color changes, it sounds like a circulation problem. (MPN nerve problem should also affect the big toe). The MRI is useless in this situation, unless an MRA (MRI Angiogram) is performed in a special high-field MRI machine. Your best bet is to talk to a podiatrist &amp; discuss your ENTIRE medical history, including any smoking history, varicose veins, family problems, &amp;c.

Fungus: I would first try a topical antifungal. It may happen in winter months as your feet are in socks and boots and therefore a nice environment for fungus to thrive in.

Burning sensation: Is suggesting a peripheral neuropathy or a local nerve being compressed. Would suggest having a local exam with your doc and possibly seeing a podiatrist as needed. Otherwise a typical joint affected by gout.

Irritation or infect: Likely it is irritation from rubbing against the inside of your shoe, you may have an "adductovarus" deformity,  but it can also be an infection.  Get it checked out to be sure by your local podiatrist! good luck!

Time to move!!: It certainly sounds like a pretty good description of cellulitis. The proximal cause needs to be uncovered. A trip to your local surgery is needed to assess the severity and minimize possible complications.

Dependancy: Rubor on dependency (red toes with feet down) with subsequent burning or pain is a sign of Peripheral Vascular disease. This may be a mild symptom or more serious. Smoking, anxiety and temperature changes also effect small vessel disease. If dependent swelling (edema) is also noted then support hose may be helpful. Avoid tobacco, temperature extremes and non-supportive shoe gear.

Maybe a back issue: How long does it take to occur? how long does it take to go away? Being in CA, it probably isn't related to weather. I would first try different shoes such as closed to as well as sandals and see if the results are the same. Try Advil (ibuprofen) if you can take it. If no better, it could be a back problem causing referred symptoms to your feet such as a sciatica problem. Think about circulation issues also
