Pliers and booze: Of course the real answer is you can't.  Hammertoes and other toe deformities can only be fixed surgically.  Don't waste your money on those splints and such.

But as a general rule, your pain and inability to wear shoes have to outweigh the risks of surgery, albeit small.  Surgery should always be the last resort.

Anything is possibl: But highly unlikely unless you fell out of bed or had an unusual injury or neuromuscular condition.

Maybe?: The best test to look for cam impingement is hip flex ion and internal rotation, so hip extension with external rotation with your toes out would be exactly the opposite position.

Maybe: Femoroacetabular impingement can cause an abnormal gait but not always. This condition is diagnosed based on physical exam and imaging findings.

Can take time: After a couple of months and your ankle still hurts, there are some things to consider: how long was it immobilized, what kind of x-rays have been taken? Ankle sprains can take a while, but you are relating a lot of inflammation.  Under normal circumstances, there is bound to be some stiffness, but not so much inflammation.   Ankle sprains could also be a "subchondral fracture"  of the ankle.

Hip flexibility: The most common reason your child would walk the way you have described is from increased hip flexibility.   It is very common in kids who sit with their knees bent forming a "w" position with their legs.  This position prevents tightening of hip ligaments by age 3 yrs old.  As long as your child doesn't have frequent tripping or falling with walking/running, there is no cause for concern.

i have a moderate to large bunion on both feet, they don't cause any pain but i was wondering would a bunion splint straighten my big toe out?

You can try it: But I don't think they work. The problem is structural in nature, and I just don't believe they work.

No intervention: is usually needed for out-toeing as the orthopedic surgeon has confirmed. If clumsiness is above and beyond what is usual for a 5 year old , a thorough evaluation by his PCP to evaluate for other causes will be prudent.
