Have it evaluated: I have see simple wounds from a similar event lead to a puss filled abscess within the complex layers of the foot. Hospitalization &amp; surgery were needed to drain the abscess &amp; begin antibiotic treatment. Three different germs were found. I would not ignore this, it sounds infected.

Athlete's foot: From the sounds of your symptoms, especially the itching may indicate a fungal infection which refers to "Athlete's foot"  When there is an inflammation of the skin it can discolor and usually becomes itchy.  This can and does cause the toes to swell as well of the rest of the foot to swell.  There are topicals that work rather well for this.  The generic name is Terbinafine.

Tight shoes: I would check to make sure the shoes fit properly.  If the shoes are too tight they may cause symptoms such as pain and irritation.  There are plenty of reasons why you may be experiencing pain and tingling.  I would recommend seeing a physician if this persists.

Erythromelalgia: You are describing Erythromelalgia, a condition you are describing quite clearly. The tests you had are typically ordered and are normal in most cases. Cause is not clear and only about 5% are hereditary. Treatment can be difficult but may includes medications such as Lyrica, Neurontin, or Cymbalta.
