Very tough: Tinnitis is very common, and often associated with hearing loss.  Technical hearing aides have dramatically improved over the years, but "tinnitis maskers" remain only partially of value.  On occasion some problem in the eustacian tube or sinuses can be provocative, and it is worth looking for.  Contact a good ENT specialist, and see what can be offered.

Difficult: Tinnitus, a ringing in the ear (s) can be inherited, a consequence of high sound exposure over time, a complication or side effect of certain drugs and because of growths in the brain.  If you have tinnitus, you need to be evaluated by an ENT specialist to determine your hearing level and whether you fit into one of the above categories.  Treatment is sometimes not possible.

OTC treatment: It is easy to pay a lot of $ for a tinnitus work up, but it very rarely uncovers anything sinister (this isn't chest pain....).  Start with plenty of sleep, avoid alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, excess sodium, and loud noise; hydrate, and turn on some static on the radio or a fan at night.  You might try otc lipo-flavonoid, arches tinnitus formula, or tinnitusdx.

Many causes: Tinnitis (ringing in the ear/ears) has always been a tough ailment to deal with and treat.  There can be many causes, including too much Aspirin ingestion over the years, tmj, ear injury, heredity, cysts, tumors, esposure to loud noises and other sources.  Proper treatment is very difficult to figure out from mouth splints, taking a ginkgo supplement over time, and even surgery.  Go to an ent.

No: Lipoflavenoids are Vitamin B and C complex and is a fairly expensive way to in most cases not have any effect on tinnitus.  However,  there is little or no evidence that this compound would make your tinnitus worse.

Accepted Answer

Surgery: There are procedures that will stop the tinnitus surgically.  However you should find an otologist who feels comfortable with the procedure.  Also there is no guarantee in the long term success of the surgery.  Initially you may have success but it can return.

Stop self analysis: See a board certified orthopedic surgeon and also a neurologist. You will need imaging ( MRI), nerve conduction studies, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.

Tinnitus: Several, depending on the cause , which needs to be eliminated. Also, noise distraction such as radio, eliminating stress such as relaxation techniques, avoid too much Aspirin products &amp;; Caffeine, &amp; use of Anxiolytics &amp; Antidepressants, as prescribed by your Doc. Hearing aids can help too.
