No home testing kit: You will need to consult your doctor on that. In the early phase, you may just have an enlarged gland at the neck and no other symptoms. Eventually you will likely end up with low thyroid function which may manifest as cold intolerance, fatigue, constipation etc.  The diagnosis however must be made by a doctor

No: Thyroxine is used to treat hypothyroidism, not hyperthyroidism.  Hair loss usually occurs before treatment for hypothyroidism, but can continue for many months, even with correct treatment of the thyroid.  If your thyroid level was low, you need to stay on thyroxine to keep it normal.

Levothyroxine.: Levothyroxine, generic form of synthroid, has many advantages over armour thyroid.  The armour product has significant batch to batch variation and has T3 (liothyronine) in it.  Since the T3 (liothyronine) portion of armour has a very quick onset and short duration, it can wreak havoc with the ability to effectively treat hypothyroidism.  Until there is a long-acting form of T3 (liothyronine) available, stick to levothyroxine.

Both armour and thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) provide too much T3 relative to t4, making it very difficult to keep tsh, free T4 & T3 normal.

Indirectly: If the original cause of underactive thyroid was a lack of iodine, then taking iodine will increase thyroid function and may probably make the synthroid (thyroxine) unneeded and make the thyroid function overactive.Otherwise there are no other interactions listed between synthroid (thyroxine) and iodine.
