There are: SUBLINGUAL TONSILS made of lymphatic tissue much as the usual pharyngeal tonsils and these tiny subligual tonsils can become infected. Get your sympotoms checked out by your PCP or ORAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL!

See ENT doctor: Pain on swallowing (odynophagia) can be caused by several conditions. A detailed history and physical examination is needed to make an accurate diagnosis. If needed multiple imaging studies are available to establish the diagnosis.

Many options: Could be caused by a bacteria like strep or by a common virus.  If you have fevers or it lasts more than a couple of days you should get it checked.

Needs evaluation: I'm sorry to say but you need to get this seen by a doctor -since you don't want to neglect something like Strep throat. There might be clues -such as if anyone else in the household was diagnosed with Strep? Certainly a virus is possible, but without a throat culture and proper evaluation, you're guessing. For now, hot drinks, rest, tylenol (acetaminophen) for symptoms. I make a hot honey-lemon drink with ginger

Sub-Q Emphesema: Subcutaneous emphesema is a condition where air makes its way under the skin. It may be noticed as air blebs or crackles under the skin. This may happen from a pneumothorax (burst lung tissue) which potentially may happen from a big valsalva (bearing down) like with a big bm. Go get it checked out asap.

Virus vs Strep: Most severe sore throats are viral in nature, but strep throat is a possibility. Mononucleosis ( the kissing disease) is caused by the epstein barr virus and is common in your age group.
