for the past week i'm coughing and have no voice. my throat doesn't hurt it is just a tickel. no other symptoms and meds don't seem to work. help?

Sick: Have you seen a doctor? If so, did they even bother to look in your nose, mouth or ears?  Listen to your lungs? Maybe do some rapid labs?

i have no voice a huge knot on the right side of my neck and i have excruciating pain in throat. i was diagnosed with pharyngitis how can i get relief?

Pharyngitis: If a doctor made a diagnosis then that doctor also prescribed you a treatment based on that diagnosis. Since you have provided no information, not even your age let alone your medical history no response can be provided. Are you 7 or 77? If there is no thoughtful question posted with necessary information, no informative response can be expected.

Saliva: Saliva is the lubricant of your mouth, throat, and vocal chords.  If the lack of saliva is so severe as to compromise the ability to speak, you need to see your dentist, who will make sure you are helped.  There are options, but first you need a diagnosis.  You may be sent to an ent, for multidisciplinary care.

Laryngitis: Voice rest, drink water but no caffeine and alcohol, take your gerd medication till your appointment.

Sore ear: If not getting better or getting worse I would go back to the clinic. Not sure what you mean by not helpful? I assume they looked in your ear and did not see something bad. That is helpful. Or they looked at your throat and did not see cancer. That is helpful.

Sore throat: Probably a virus  a common cold.  Drink fluids and rest. Yellow or greenish drainage with a fever, think bacterial infection that needs an antibiotic. See your internist or family doctor if persistent  over the next week. Hang in there.

Honey, lemon juice: Warm water mixed with a bit of lemon juice and honey works in many cases. When it doesn't, viscous xylocaine (lidocaine) syrup, diluted and gargled, is effective (prescription needed).

does strep throat cause hoarseness or loss of voice?

Occasionally: Sometimes if the tonsils are very swollen and infected the patient can get what is known as the "hot potato voice". It means that their speech is muffled and distorted. In which case they may actually have an abcess of the tonsil. In my experience most people with strep just have a normal voice, but with a sore throat. Hoarseness is more common with croup and laryngitis.

Possibly viral: Laryngitis.Boil freshly sliced, peeled ginger root in water until the tea is tan. Add 3 tbsp of honey. Sip to help relieve sore throat pain and to accelerate healing of laryngitis. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.  Add honey & a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea. Contact dr if not responding.
