Hello. : Hello. My kids have certainly done that before. It is hard to know if she has nightmares or if she wants to stay up. I think that getting her into a routine is really important. She may fight it at first, but then it will become second nature. Try to have the same bedtime every night. This can be preceeded by  a warm  bath  with lavendar, warm milk, brushing teeth (you brushing hers), and a small sachel of lavender near her (but not it she will open it up). Gentle circular hand movements on her back or top of head and soothing sleep songs. Even a child who is really fighting sleep, will usually surrender to this regimen. Take care.

She may not know: If your daughter does not wake immediately when you touch her she is in the midst of a "night terror", an anomaly of sleep like sleep walking. If she wakes immediately it is a nightmare & she will remember specifics.Night terrors occur in deeper sleep & kids have no memory of them.If you shake her awake you likely frighten her. Helping her get as little as 1/2 hr more sleep/d can stop the events.

Night time routine?: If this is a new problem, she may be uncomfortable.  Ear pain can get worse at night, for example.  How is she acting when she wakes?  Does she seem comfortable but just wanting to play? Is she in pain? For any concerns such as these she may need to see her pediatrician. Sleep 3 year old: 10-12 at night and then 1-2 naps during the day.  This may be more or less as children vary wildly.  They basically need lots of sleep as they are growing and that takes lots of energy.
