Of course, keep appt with gastroenterologist but don&#x27;t worry too much.

Diverticulosis: and possibly prior episode of diverticulitis could present this way. So too does infected segment or inflammation. The mild dilated small bowel in the current context is not as much of concern as the condition of the colon. Best discuss these findings with your doctor to put them into a good clinical picture. If by thickening: You r referring to inflammation then the etiology is either infect/ischemic/or malignany.Cts and MRI will show the wall to be thickened in each of the above causes.It can also be from chronic straining, prolapse and certain stds.Ulcerative proctitis is a type of inflamm. Bowel disease can also present as thickening in imaging studies. They are all diagnosed by proctoscopy with biopsies or cultures.

Unusual: To perform a rectal ultrasound for the described symptoms. Ask the ordering doctor what they were looking for. Colitis, rectal inflammation, maybe hemorrhoid could cause thickening on an ultrasound. Usually a digital examination & maybe sigmoidoscopy is indicated to look at the rectal lining. Just don't know what was to be expected from a rectal ultrasound, looking at the prostate?

Talk to your doctor: Most likely you already have rectal exam,  you don't have to worry as long as not on inner  mucosal layer , cancers start from mucosa not from muscle wall  , at 43  you will need not just digital exam , need complete visualization   by colonoscopy , speak to your doctor

Probable mild: inflammation of the inside of the rectum-proctitis is usually easily treated with hydrocortisone rectal suppositories.I suggest calling your gI or PCP.

Maybe thickened: The wall of the bottom part of your colon might be a little thick but it isn't certain. What that means is there may be evidence of inflamed tissue when the wall of the colon is measured but a normal colon is sometimes the same thickness. Most likely further tests will be needed, such as a colonoscopy. That will be a decision made by you doctor based on the clinical situation.
