i had a dry burning sensation in the back of my throat, but now i have thick green and brown mucus in throat, still dry, bad taste, yellow tint tounge?

Run-of-the-Mill: Sounds like you have what i just got over. No biggie. You need more fluids and brush your teeth and tongue twice a day. You may develop other symptoms too, like a cough and headache but it should all blow over in a week or so. Over the counter cold and cough meds should help. If getting progressively worse, however, then you may want to see a doctor, especially if a high fever develops.

Did you check zinc ?: Zinc deficiency is usually associated with bad taste or lack of taste of food. You might want to check zinc level.

Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold, influenza, or "mono" (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat).

: Warm salt water or vinegar and water gargle can help. Also Warm humidifier in sleep room or bedroom can help. Plus avoid sleeping with Air Conditioner or Fan blowing directly at one. If Symptoms persist, a visit with the PCP/ ENT or Lung Doctor is encouraged

i stop breathing for periods of time at night. i have gerd and i've often have at least 1 nostril blocked. thick mucus in throat. are these connected?

Stop breathing: Sleep apnea. need polysomnogram. See ENT for laryngeal endoscopy and nasal exam.

recently quit smoking after 20 years of half-full pack a day. have chronic sinus congestion with thick/excessive mucus in throat. also have a dry cough occasionally and sometimes wheezing associated with laying down in bed mostly. recent normal pft?

Give it time: Congratulations on stopping smoking; you have greatly improved your chance of a long healthy life. You don't say what you mean by "recently". However, smokers cough and other consequences of smoking may take take months  or years to improve after stopping. And it sounds like you might have an allergic component, i.e. asthma plus allergic sinusitis. Keep working with your doctor. Good luck!

Allergic rhinitis: Sounds like allergic rhinitis or if you're a smoker then it maybe chronic bronchitis. If you don't smoke, then it can be treated by avoiding allergens, especially pollen dust, and other household triggers or you may see your primary doc and be given a nasal corticosteroid spray which are usually quite effective.

Possible nasopharyng: You either have chronic sinus infection or chronic infection above and behind the palate.  Unlikely to be from dirt or dust being swept from nose into throat.  Need to have ENT look into nose and behind palate to determine source of drainage and obtain secretions for culture.  Chronic nasopharyngitis is very hard to eradicate.  Ct only useful if there is chronic sinusitis.  Could try saline rinse.
