for about four years now ive been having thick white, sticky nasal mucus.  a little bit of it comes out, but lots of times is long and thick almost looks like semen ropes, but smaller.  sorry but that best describes it.  i have to pick it out, ideas?

Sinusitis: Chronic allergic rhinosinusitus or chronic fungal nasal infection could give you thick white stringy mucus.  It may be interrupting your sleep and causing daytime sleepiness or even memory loss. You should consider having your primary care provider evaluate this condition before damage to the sinuses occurs.

thick nasal mucus - i have to blow my nose very hard to get the plug feeling out, it is commonly very thick, white (not clear). should i be concern?

Thick nasal mucus: Thick nasal mucus can be related to sinusitis, but not necessarily. If you have chronic allergies or recurrent infections you should consult a doctor who can identify if there is an opportunity to improve nasal inflammation with sprays or treat infection with antibiotics. You may benefit from good nasal hygiene as well which involves using salt water rinses to clear mucus and allergens.

allergy rast/blood (ige) test reports no milk allergy. is it possible i could still be allergic to dairy? suffering from thick nasal mucus.

Yes: Either RAST (replaced by ImmunoCap IgE) and prick skin testing can miss some food allergies.  I often test a patient to the food itself when the history and test findings do not match.  Recently I was about to challenge a young boy to walnut (history positive, skin test negative) when the skin test turned out to be highly positive to the actual nut. Mold &amp; mite allergies are more likely in HK.

2yr old has nasal mucus that went from clear to thick yellow,now it is clear w/ light yellow.been 7 days. sinus infection or cold? let it run coarse?

Depends: The nasal mucous will color over time from the normal germs that live on the membrane walls.The color means less than the 2yo's pattern of daily activities. If the kid is playful.eating normally and not bothered that it should clear on its own.If the kid's feeds are off, play is less and she is running fever, it deserves a visit.

at day 8 after cold onset. everything else cleared, but when to be concerned about lingering sore throat and excessive nasal mucus (thick/green)?

Cold: The majority of colds are caused by viruses, which can take 2 weeks or so to resolve. As long as you are feeling better, keep taking over the counter meds such as antihistamines. If you start to feel worse or develop new fevers, you may now have become infected with a bacteria and antibiotics may be necessary.

May be normal: Sinusitis is mostly caused by viruses. There is difficulty diagnosing bacterial sinusitis by symptoms alone but  if symptoms are present &gt;10 days, fever &gt;102 with pus for first 3-4 days of symptoms or worsening of symptoms following viral infection - you may have a bacterial infection. Be careful to use nasacort (triamcinolone) appropriately as the irritation may also cause bleeding.

pain rt eye and headache rt side 6 months. sinus ct clear. still have thick green nasal mucus, constant throat clearing and headache daily. ct missed?

Need exam: Given the duration of your symptoms, i think you need to see an ophthalmologist.
