Blood-other causes: Black stool ( melena) can be caused from old blood in the stomach/intestines, . Licorice ( black) can also cause this. Call your physician for upper endoscopy results and photos, get routine blood testing.Defintely do not ignore!

Black stools: Black stools is a sign of possible gastrointestinal bleeding. In babies some formulas might cause this problem. Have baby evaluated by pediatritian  as soon as possible.

Not likely: The color of the stools can certainly be affected by the type of food that we eat, but usually not black unless you eat raw red meat or other dish containing animal blood.  If you are really having jet black and tarry stools, then it may suggest bleeding inside the stomach or small bowels. You need to see your doctor right away for urgent evaluation.

It could be many : Things. A GI bleed comes to mind. I recommend you go to the er for evaluation. Don't drive if you are too fatigued. Best wishes.

Workout safely: You can apply ice over the knee, do a little bit of compression with an elastic bandage and apply cold compress over the site of pain. If this occurs after strenuous exercise this might be normal, if this condition happens all the time it is important to attend with a physician to discard any other problem like osteoarthritis (though you are young for this condition). Workout safely. :)

i was on 65mg iron supplements and had black stool. suddenly my stool is no longer black. does that mean i am no longer absorbing it all & take more?

No: Black stools are a normal adverse effect from taking iron. Better if you can get retested for anemia to see if the oral iron has helped before stopping it abruptly.

: If you have any concern you could have your stool tested for blood. An over the counter kit may be available for the test.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

Worrisome: Thin black stools suggest digested blood while dark green suggest starvation stools. Neither are a good sign &amp; suggest you need to be evaluated to find the cause.

Black: Black stools (melena) are potentially worrisome as this can be a sign of intestinal bleeding.  A few other things can cause black stools (like iron supplements) but regardless, you should have it checked by your doctor.

BLACK: stools are concerning since they can represent upper (stomach) GI bleeding. HOWEVER, dietary intake ( eg: blueberries) or IRON supplements can also result in blackish stools...A SIMPLE STOOL TEST will give the answer...get it ASAP...
