Respiratory stimulnt: The caffeine in many teas are chemicals called methylxanthines. These have a mild respiratory stimulant effect. Caffeine is a cousin of aminophyllin, but there is no theophyllin in tea. Teas may be have a mild soothing effect, but their use in management of true asthma events is meager at best.

Probably not: There's a "pop" claim that tea and cola predispose to kidney stones, but little scientific reason. The overriding key to prevention is to keep the urine dilute (always pale, never dark) by drinking plenty of fluids -- the cheapest is tap water, and perhaps tea-drinkers are actually just drinking less of that.

The linus pauling institute reported a study indicating that green tea can assist w glycemic control. Additionally, green tea has a diuretic effect.

Light vs dark tea: Tea is derived from the camellia sinensis tree.  The leaves contain antioxidant polyphenols which have an anti-carcinogenic effect.  Lighter tea (white & green) is less processed.  Black tea is dried & fermented. Studies suggest green tea can assist with glycemic control as well as reduced heart disease death rate. There are more studies around that suggest benefits from green tea than for black.

Why: If you limit your tea consumption to no more than 4 cups per day, this is not an excessive amount of caffeine unless you have other medical problems.  There are many other much worse addictions to worry about, drinking a lot of black tea is not one of them.
