Corticosteroid: This is somewhat controversial but:
Start taking or increase your inhaled corticosteroid to a high dose AT THE FIRST SIGN of a cold before it gets to the chest is your best chance of mitigating an attack.  If you wait it may be too late.

No: You can take both Zyrtec and prednisone at the same time! You can also try a nasal steroid spray to improve the stuffiness.

Control blood sugar: Right sided burning and shaking may indicate a Neurologic problem. Please see the Emergency room. They may recommend fluids, control of your blood sugar and a Neurologic evaluation. The antibiotic should be continued pending further review and a chest image.

Fever control: I would recommend seeing your physician, since one possible cause of his respiratory pattern is pneumonia. Your son may need a course of antibiotics and testing for influenza.
