Possible: This is a high dose steroid. It does not hurt to check potassium level if you suspect.

i eat 2 meals a day. i take asa 81mg and potassium cl er 20meq at am meal, and prednisone 10mg at evening meal. i need to add a multi-vitamin, which is a,b's,c,d,e and calcium. i take all these with food. when can i take the vitamin? thank you?

: You can take the multivitamin with either of your two meals. There will be no likely interactions.

Unlikely: Prednisone can lower the potassium concentration in part by causing fluid retention and dilution of the serum potassium.  However, the problem is dose/duration dependent, so a short course of a low dose of prednisone is unlikely to cause a problem.  You don't mention that you're on a potassium supplement, but, if you are, you certainly need to continue it.

: Any cough lasting more than 2 weeks warrant evaluation by a lung doctor, a pulmonologist to make sure that treatable conditions are not being missed.

No effect: I am not aware of any steroid effect on IgA level although it may reduce IgG level somewhat on some people after prolonged high-dose prednisone exposure.

79 year old male going to have (tavr) transcatheter aortic valve replacement surgery in 2 weeks, started taking a 9 day run of prednisone 10mg for gout flair up and the uric acid levels were very high. will the prednisone interfere with the recovery?

: Your adrenal glands can become a little lazy after the prednisone treatment and this reduces your body's response to stress. However, you're not having open heart surgery with all the stress on your body that that entails. An endocrinologist would be best to consult preoperatively to determine whether the procedure should be postponed or not.

Yes: Stop the Prednisolone and speak with the doctor who prescribed it. Also, have more thorough testing for possible diabetes.

Prednisone don't mat: It does not matter as Prednisone has no efffect on hemoglobin production.

Yes: Increases in ast, alt, and alkaline phosphatase have been reported. The elevations are usually small and reverse when Prednisone is discontinued.  Long-term use of Prednisone can lead to fatty liver which can also increase enzymes.

Accepted Answer

It's dose dependent.: The higher the Prednisone dose, the worse the sugars can get for diabetic patients.  As the dose is commonly tapered, the glucose levels improve.  To answer your question more specifically, glucose levels should be back to normal within 12-24 hours after your last dose of prednisone.
