a week ago i was running and fell on our tile floor and landed on my bunion on my right foot, which is a pretty large. i have been walking on the side of my foot but have used crutches for walking outside (hurts w/ shoe). could it be fractured?

Not enough info: First off, you need to get a full evaluation from your physician regarding the fracture. Are you healed yet? Are you able to wear shoes? What was broken and how bad was it? Really need much more information in order to give you a reasonable answer. You should be asking your treating physician these questions.

i suspect i fractured my small toe 5 years ago, i feel pain when i walk barefoot on the bone underneath the toe and this causes me to shift my weight onto the other side of my foot. problem is not as bad when i wear tackies or shoes ?

Find the cause.: The treatments  you have tried are merely examples of treating the symptoms of metatarsalgia and not the cause. The cause is due to damaging pressures being applied to the metatarsal heads over time. Typically, being over weight, improper shoes, high arched feet and over use are the partly responsible. A great walking shoe and eliminating or reducing stressful activities would be a good start.

By design...: The purpose of the moon boot is to change your gait in a way the dissipates the force of the ground over a larger surface area. This is what allows the fracture to heal. The boot may or may not irritate already existing problems such as bunions or bunionettes. There is a transition back into regular shoes. This may involve athletic shoe first. Ask your doctor for advice on shoes or therapy.

I would think the  wearing a great pair of shoe should turn the problem around. I f you suspect a stress fracture, then stay off your foot a while and see if the pain reduces. I would hold off on the MRI and give the tincture of time a chance.

podiatrist diagnosed 5th metatarsal stress fracture near toe even though it's not on x ray.  pain & swelling when walking and swimming.  could it be tendonitis instead?  can foot heal without an orthopedic shoe, which feels worse than sneaker?

Leave ortho shoe on: It is possible to have a fracture that isn't seen on xray.  It is important to follow the podiatrists instructions in order for the stress fracture to heal properly.  If there is a problem with the ortho shoe I would recommend letting the podiatrist know to see if there is another option.

yes: It is wise to avoid nsaids like ibuprophen. Listen to your body and limit weight bearing. The walking boot will help. It takes 8 weeks to heal a fracture. Lower stress by visualizing  positive experiences to increase beta endorphins to protect stem cells needed for healing,  get a good night sleep, eat 6 healthy small meals and exercise upper body  6 times a  day for good circulation and nutrition.
