Not a great idea: will cause undue sress on the femoral head. Not contraindiciatex, but not suggested.

Whatever feels best: For arthritic conditions, a shoe with a cushioned heel and rocker sole such as a running shoe work well.  For unstable ankles, a shoe with a broader base and more ankle support (light weight hiking boot). Ultimately, whatever shoe produces the least amount of pain is a good choice.

Barefoot: He may trip wearing shoes. And he'll have have better control barefoot.

Shoes: Anything with a good durable sole. The flimsier the shoe, the less supportive and shock absorbing it is. Often, you get what you pay for with shoes so the better quality ones are the way to go.

: My recommendation is to consider how much weight your are carrying around and how much that may be straining your feet.  Recall how many sticks of butter there are in a pound up there.  Then multiply this by the humber of pounds you are overweight. Then think about how this is like carrying a backpack full of x sticks of butter. Best got move to eating plan that will lower your weight.  DASH works

Support: You need a shoe that has good midsole and rear heel support. There are too many shoes out there these days that are too soft/flexible. This causes the fascia to be under repetitive strain. Orthotics (insoles) can be of benefit. See your local doctor to be evaluated.

We are all different: There isn't any right answer.  If you know a good podiatrist or orthopedic they may be able to recommend something specific for you.  They can at least tell you terms regarding what your foot tends to do. How much do you pronate?  Wide or narrow heel, wide toe box?  Armed with that information some on line shoe places have customer comments that rate shoes by customers with the same issues.

Losing weight : Losing weight w/ exercise will help. Spot fat loss does not occur naturally. By losing weight generally, some of the lost fat may be butt/thigh fat.  We don't get to choose from which area of the body fat is lost. Eat healthy &amp; be active. Calories burned must be more than those consumed. Workout thighs w/ plies, squats, stair steps, lunges w/ dumbbells, ball squeeze &amp; single leg circles.

15 post-stroke, still relearning to walk. what type of scan is best to see what's going on in my thigh and hip? feel bundled up sometimes.

Nothing to see there: If you are rehabilitating from a stroke and having trouble walking then, there's really nothing to see in your thigh and hip.  I will bet next month's mortgage on the statement, "They are BORINGLY fine."  The problem occurred in the brain.  You've probably had either the CT or MRI of the brain and that's what is really needed to assess the damage.  Good luck with the rehab.

broke pelvis at 90. had 6wk of daily pt. just discharged and only getting 30min per wk with outpatient pt. what is best to get me independent walking?

Push, don't overdo: I would continue to practice the exercises you've learned from pt that you can do independently. It is always work to exercise and strengthen our bodies, so it is ok to push yourself somewhat. However, i also encourage you not to overdo it. I understand this is vague, but you have to listen to your body so as not to re-injure or cause another problem. I think more frequent/less strenuous is best.
