Self exam by: Using the thumb, index, and middle fingers to palpate for lumps, hardness, or swelling of the testicles periodically.However,  no evidence that routine screening for testicular cancer through periodic clinical examinations or self-examinations would improve health outcomes. False positive will increase anxiety and unnecessary tests/procedure.  Thus, it is not recommended- if you have no symptoms.

A : A monthly self-exam of the testicles is recommended. Some men do this after a warm bath or shower, so the scrotal muscles are more relaxed and the skin is softer. The testicles should first be visually examined to look for bumps or swelling. Then they should be palpated by holding the scrotum and testicle in the hand. Gently roll the testicle back and forth between the thumb and forefinger. Abnormal findings in the testicles that warrant further evaluation are a painless swelling or lump, any change in how the testicle feels, any change in size, an acute build-up of fluid in the scrotum, or pain in the testicle. Further testing may include an ultrasound, a painless procedure during which high energy sound waves are bounced off the testicular tissue.

13-17 % of men have lt varicocele.
Most of the times it is of no significance.
At times is causes discomfort in scrotum, and at times it contributes to infertility

Starts with : ...A physical exam, looking for testicular lumps. Ultrasound and certain blood tests (tumor markers like AFP and beta hcg) can be of help. If there is enough concern, a urologist removes the testicle. Testicular biopsy with a needle is not advised.

Examine the lump: The doctor would ask you some questions, check the lump itself with fingers to see if it is soft or hard, tender or not, and also whether there are other lumps or swollen glands in the groin.  Then s/he would probably refer you for an ultrasound exam, which is not at all painful and is very quick. Most testicular lumps turn out not to be dangerous, but please don't put this off.  Some are cancer.

No good blood tests : There are very few blood tests for detecting cancer. So drs have to examine you with their hands and oftenuse x-ray tests to see inside the body. Blood tests are the last thing we would sometimes use, in order to confirm a diagnosis but for most cancers there is no such test.
