Depends: Sometimes very quickly because you can see the abnormal cells on a slide under the microscope from a simple blood draw.  Sometimes it requires a bone marrow biopsy.  But even if that is done, once the slide a stained, the pathologist can look right away.  Hope this helps.

Hard to say: You need a complete history a physical  to make a diagnosis -- lab results alone are not sufficient for nay real diagnosis.

would blood flow cytometry and peripheral blood smear tests more than likely detect leukemia and lymphoma? normal results. person also had normal ct scans so no swollen nodes, only persistent mild lymphocytosis as the reason for these tests?

Blood tests: A simple cbc and differential cell count is usually diagnostic of leukemia, but peripheral blood tests aren't helpful in diagnosis of lymphoma which requires a tissue diagnosis. I suspect your lymphocytosis, if mild, is nonspecific. I assume active viral infections and infectious mononucleosis are not issues at this time. A hematologist is best to advise you.

Leukemia: Leukemia is associated with fatigue and weakness. The blood gets thick secondary to excessive blood products in serum. Common to have orbital inflammatory processes, orbital occlusion of vessels, hepatomegally, splenomegally,  and bleeding. If no symptoms and your blood work is normal there is no evidence for leukemia.

What symptoms?: Blood test may be normal in lymphoma. If you suspect either of thses disorders, it will require a detailed history, physical exaination and lab tests, including may be a biopsy. The issue is not suitable for this forum.

Acute leukemia can: Present in days to weeks. A new CBC will settle the issue.
