my son is seven months old and teething, was struggling with fever 38.4 - 40.4c for three days but that has cleared up now he has a rash on his tummy and behind his ears paired with a swollen lymph gland behing his left ear. what could be the cause?

An illness: I don't accept the idea that this was from teeth. This is a common pattern for many viruses that fever on/off for a few days ending with a rash as the fever leaves. The lymph glands often swell with such illnesses &amp; the most evident are those in the neck/head where they are not hidden deep in the tissues.

Multiple causes: The rash could be due to several causes and one would need more details to diagnose it. Teething usually does not cause a rash. It could be due to a viral infection, allergic reaction, irritation etc. Please see you pediatrician to get it diagnosed. Hope that helps!

Immune rash: The immune system does odd things. Kids who are teething have slightly activated immune systems, and that can cause non-descript red bumpy rashes on the chest or diaper area. Viruses can do the same thing, and kids who are teething catch a lot of viruses. Strawberries and other foods can cause a contact irritation in the diaper area when some is mixed with the poop. But no, it's not always viral.

Teething: Teething at that age causes a significant increase is salivary flow. This increased salivary flow can cause stomach upset. Consult you pediatrician for recommendations and always watch for dehydration from the vomiting and diarrhea.

my son is 1year 1month and his teething but it's been 3 weeks now he has a runny tummy, we've been to a gp they gave him medication to stop the running stomach but it didn't help, he's still playful sleeps at night he has no signs that he's sick?

Teething: Can be stressful for both parents and child. Suggest cold teething ring. As your child's teething is protracted and thus uncomfortable, please see a pediatric dental specialist, a Pedodontist. All children should have 1st dental exam no later than 1st b'day, whether teeth are present or not. Pedodontist can be of great help.

Not to worry!: If she is nursing, urinating , has no fever and active it is most likely normal. If she just nurses she won't be hungry to eat solids, offer solids first and then nurse  let someone else in the family try to feed her. If she is fussy and acting like teething try pain relievers like tylenol (acetaminophen).

I think she’ll be ok: As a physician and mother of five children I have seen that teething can cause fever. So please use tincture of time in this case. If other symptoms evolve then it’s important to talk to your doctor. But often, tincture of time heals all or if something serious is a mess then it will rear its ugly head in time.

Probiotic : Yogurt,rice and bananas may relieve symptoms. Monitor temperature and provide clear liquids. Consider changing formula. Please discuss a possible milk intolerance or allergy with your pediatrician.

Hard : Hard to tell without a picture, but perhaps he has either eczema or molluscum contagiosum.  Take a look at the picture below to see if it looks similar to molluscum.  If so, i would visit a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis and discuss treatment options.  I hope that helps.

: One of the best remedies for his sore bottom is cleaning with baby oil on a cotton ball. That generally doesn’t sting and helps to sooth the area. Then apply a barrier diaper ointment, such as desitin or Balmex (white unscented diaper cream) so that the stool isn’t touching his skin as much.
