LIKELY WILL: It is longer acting then xanax and you take a large dose. I would expect some withdrawal.

Yes and no: Xanax (alprazolam) is a very short acting benzodiazepine and Klonopin is longer acting. Xanax (alprazolam) is much more addictive if used long term, but may act quicker. Neither is good long term as you develop tolerance meaning the same dose is no longer effective. It is better to fo find an antidepressant or a wide variety of other anti anxiety medications.

Talk to his doc.: While there is likely no interaction, anyone who is prescribing you Klonopin or xanax (alprazolam) would probably like to know that their patient is concerned enough about his/her mood to be taking an over the counter agent and can better advise them on the safest way to address this.

Same family: Klonopin (clonazepam) and Xanax (alprazolam) are benzodiazepines, which means both have same effects. The difference is how long the effect lasts (clonazepam lasts longer). If he considers those two drugs are the one you need, there is no problem in taking one by the morning and the other one by the night.

Klonopin (clonazepam) lasts long: Klonopin is usually given twice a day. Xanax (alprazolam) is given 3-4 times a day. Klonopin has a longer half life (the ammount of time it take for you to get rid of half of the dose through metabolism / elimination) it is also easier to come off Klonopin through gradual dose reduction. There are other differences reported by some patients. (more euphoria with xanax).
