It's possible, but..: It's possible, but I think it's very unlikely. The only way to know for sure would be to switch back and see if you lose the weight you gained. I notice you have Grave's disease, which affects your thyroid. It's more likely you need a higher dose of Synthroid (thyroxine). Or the new metoprolol could be making your Synthroid (thyroxine) less effective. Ask your doctor to check your TSH. That will help answer the question.

i've been on 50 mgs lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) 2x daily and 25mgs 1x daily of hctz for almost a year. how do you recommend tapering off. it's caused 60 lbs weight gain?

Lopressor (metoprolol tartrate): You need to speak to your doctor about this. I doubt that the Lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) would have caused the 60lb weight gain. Other reasons need to be investigated. Take care!

last year post-viral myocarditis, ef was 10% been on entresto, metoprolol, spironolactone for year, ef now 45% or higher. dr doesn't want to discuss discontinuing meds, but i'm experiencing weight gain from meds (not fluid) can i get your opinion?

: If the doctor who knows you best is advising against stopping the meds, that is your best bet. You EF going from 10% to 45% is good evidence the medications are working. Perhaps you can see a nutritionist to get on a weight loss regimen that will help you lose the extra pounds you gained from the meds. Good luck to you!

Weight gain: You need to speak to your physician (p) about your weight gain. Are you gaining water weight, edema (e), or are you gaining fat weight? If you are gaining e, perhaps you are ingesting too much of water and/or salt. You may also be helped if you ask your p to switch your diuretic to a loop diuretic, which can mobilize e better. If it is fat weight, it is not caused by the meds you are taking.
