Virus: Colds are due to viruses. There is not a medication you can take to relieve a cold, however you can take things to ameliorate the symptoms. Take over the counter medications that will help you with the symptoms.

Talk to GYN: No medicine is necessary for colds; she should drink plenty of fluids and get her rest. If she cannot tolerate symptoms, diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is quite safe, though it can cause drowsiness. Beyond that, she should discuss with GYN what they recommend; different providers and pregnant women make different decisions about other meds.

i am 7 months pregnant... i am daily taking a small amount of cetrizine tablet for cold and duolin respules for nebulizing from the start of my pregnancy... i can't miss it even a single day.. is it harmful for my baby? please help.. i am anxious?

Nebulizer: I'm sure your obstetrician would want your respiratory tract issues, probably bronchitis and wheezing, properly treated. I feel strongly that he/she should be informed of your condition and all your medications by your treating physician. See answer: Best advice if possibly pregnant is to avoid as much OTC meds as possible. Paracetamol for fever is ok. Avoid aspirin. Dextromethorphan for cough is ok. Avoid the decongestants pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine. Since OTC meds don't make a cold or flu go away any sooner, there is no define need to take medication for a cold. Look on OTC labels for Pregnancy warnings.

Valacyclovir: OK....thats not the right dose.  For cold sores (herpes type 1 AND 2)..the dose of Valtrex (valacyclovir) is 2grams by mouth in the morning and then again at night.  Then your finished technically.
