Not recommended: Your son seems to have an acute gastroenteritis which generally subsides spontaneously.  Keep him well hydrated by giving him clear fluid such as gatorade or pedialyte.  In case his abdominal pain worsens, seek a medical attention

Fluids &amp; exam!: There are many possible causes of your child's diarrhea, including viral infection, bacterial infection, food allergies, food intolerance, parasites, &amp; drugs. Dehydration is the primary concern with diarrhea so make certain your child is well hydrated. And take your child to medical clinic for a full examination as soon as possible. Food sensitivity: If your problem is in sweets, corn syrup or sugar you may be reacting to something like an artificial sweetener, a product in syrup but not sugar. May have intolerance to corn. May be improper digestion or absorption. Would attempt elimination diet of the above for 2 weeks at a time. If no help, look for other factors.

Hello. : Hello. If she feels dizzy or lightheaded when going from lying to sitting or sitting to standing this is a possible sign of dehydration. Also consider taking her pulse rate when going from lying to sitting to standing. If it increases by 20 or more she is likely to be significantly dehydrated.  Make sure she doesn't change her position rapidly.  Additionally if her lips are dry that is not good. If she hasn't been able to keep up with the fluid losses from diarrhea and vomiting then she might need to go to an acute care clinic or an emergency room for intravenous hydration.

i started taking colpermin a few days ago (as prescribed) and now i have diarrhea.

Peppermint oil: why are you taking this? Diarrhea may be secondary to the underlying reason why you're taking the supplement or from the supplement itself. Remember that over-the-counter oils and herbal supplements are not regulated and you may not be buying what you think. Talk w your doctor again if the diarrhea persists.

Take as prescribed: The diarrhea you experienced one hour after taking your pills will not affect their absorption. Small bowel transit time is at least eight hours or so, and colonic transit time is variable but averages around one or 1 1/2 days.  The point is that what was coming out in the toilet bowl an hour after you took your pills had none of that particular pill in it.

Treatment Failure: I would be very interested to know what the doctor is treating. I know of no common reason to give someone an antibiotic for diarrhea.  But in any case, it did not work. Persistent diarrhea needs to be tested for bugs, parasites, and bacteria and THE CORRECT diagnosis made before any treatment can be recommended.

Avoid fat, dairy : A bland diet low in fat and avoiding dairy may help.  Smaller, more frequent meals may also be better tolerated.

No meds: I generally do not give any medication for diarrhea because this is the body flushing out what is causing the problem in the first place. Occasionally antibiotics are used if there is a worsening situation with a bacterial diarrhea that is causing bloody stool and fever. If the number of bowel movements a day is decreasing and he is drinking and eating you usually need no medication. Good luck.
