doc tested me for syphilis with fta-abs. it was positive. after 10 confirmatory test only 2 fta-abs were pos. 4 rpr test neg. only 1 partner hes neg but went to china 10 yrs ago &got shots. syphilis or do i have lupus? could i got it from the shot?

Not syphilis: Almost certainly you do not have syphilis and never did. Usually no cars can be found for false positive syphilis test results. Lupus might be possible, but it is rare in this situation. Keep working with your doctor(s).

is it possible to have treated syphilis prior to it becoming positive on a test. if so could you spread it prior to to it becoming detectable by a test.my fta-abs was negative. if blood ,seaman can spread can sweat. how easy it to spread to th eyes?

Unlikely: If  someone has new syphilis (under 6 weeks) and a syphilitic sore (chancre, usually on the genitals), it can be transmitted before the blood test is positive, but only by sex. It is not transmitted by sweat and almost never by blood, and never transmitted to one’s own eyes. In syphilis more than 6 weeks in duration, the FTA-ABS test always is positive and stays positive after treatment.

No: That is how the diagnosis is made. You should get treated.

Accepted Answer

Both are good: Both are good accurate tests. Most labs start with the inexpensive RPR as a screening test and the do an FTABS if positive. Some labs go straight for VDRL or FTABS. Either way is fine. Both work great.

No: However lupus can cause the screening test for syphilis (the rpr) to be falsely positive.

Very accurate : A treponema antibody test is a very accurate way to detect syphilis. At 4 weeks the test is accurate.

Possibly- more tests: A 41 band alone could signify lyme but is not enough to make the diagnosis. Unfortunately most labs don't do an adequate WB test- it's crucial to test the highly specific 31 & 34 bands & most labs don't. Ignenex does the best test. tested positive for syphilis & got one penicillin injection july 1, 14 days now most signs are gone. still some tongue discolor. how long to be normal?

Syphilis: I know I am the second to respond to this. But, My concern is that a discoloration of the tongue could be other things.  Your physician will, at this point, know your syphilis antibodies count and will know if they need to retreat you or just follow with a repeat test in three months. But, if the tongue issue does not resolve you may want your dentist to take a look as well.

me & my boyfriend had unprotected sex then after a week he tested positive for syphilis so is there any possibility that it was passed on to me even though my discharge and everything about me is normal?
