i am at risk of getting hiv from oral sex, giving and receiving. after 84 days i went to get 3rd generation hiv lab test and got negative result with s/co index 0.485 . and negative for syphilis, hepatitis b, hepatitis c. am i safe?

: There have been few if any scientifically documented cases of HIV transmission oral to penis or by cunnilingus (oral-vaginal contact), so you were not at risk. Your HIV blood test is conclusively negative, and your other tests are conclusive as well. You had a safe exposure and were not infected with any of the infections for which you were tested.

Yes: Especially if there are chancres (sores) in the area contact.

is it possible to get syphilis and aids through oral sex?

Accepted Answer

Yes: It is definitely possible to get syphilis from oral sex. Hiv is more rarely transmitted through unprotected (no condom) oral sex with men, and very rare with oral sex with women. People at risk ar emore likely to have bad gums or sores in their mouths that provide easier entry for the hiv. It is safer to to use condoms (men) or dental dams (women) for oral sex.

would giving oral sex to someone with syphilis quickly turn to neuro syphilis and would it show in standard blood tests if it were not passed vaginaly?

Syphilis: The disease is very dangerous, even today, but neurosyphilis does not develop within the first six months. Please get tested if you think you may have been exposed.

Essentially no.: You can theoretically contract any disease through blood transfusion, but blood supply in USA is tested for almost all transmissible diseases.

how common is getting syphilis through oral sex? and what other std are passed on through oral sex? is it common to catch std through oral sex?

Accepted Answer

Any STD can be: transmitted through oral sex, including syphilis, if the other person is infected (which they may not know). Gonorrhea, chlamydia and HPV(human papilloma virus) are more common than syphilis these days and can be transmitted this way,  This is why use of condoms for oral sex, as well as anal or vaginal sex is so important.

took a syphilis test at 10 days and then at 22 days and both was negative. took both tests out of anxiety after giving oral sex (msm). this was a few months ago. would i need to retest?

: Yes at 90 days. How about exposure to other STDs?

i`ve had a negative syphilis and hiv 4th gen test 8 and 10 weeks after possible exposure (msm oral sex). is there need to retest? if so does it make a difference if at 12 weeks or 90 days?

: Around 12 weeks is the usual recommended time

in reference to my previous questions(oral sex from a girl and now taking doxy as a precaution)i understand syphilis is possible in this scenario but how common is it. would the clinic give me penicillin as a precaution as well. im just freaked out?

: The chance of syphilis in this situation is near zero and I would have recommended you not take doxycycline, or that you get penicillin. But as long as you have started doxycycline, you should continue to take it for 2 weeks at a dose of 100 mg twice daily.

had rpr syphilis test done and it was negative. it had been 2 months since sexual contact (oral sex). some sources say 12 week window period?

Accepted Answer

Not ruled out yet: Incubation period for syphilis varies from 7 to 90 days.  Negative RPR 4 months after exposure will virtually rules out syphilis.
