hello dr's,would an oral syphilis chancre be obvious to the eye or would you be able to feel it? if my male partner had syphilis would a chancre be more obvious to the eye if on the genitals? thanks?

: Syphilis chancres almost always are very obvious anywhere on the body. If you have been exposed or otherwise think you are at risk, get care including testing. If you have had sexual contact with someone known to have syphilis, you need penicillin treatment without waiting for a chancre or for test results. Get care if in doubt; your local NHS GUM clinic would be an excellent source for care.

: Both false positive and false negative tests have been noted.   False negatives especially may occur if taken too early after exposure or late in the infection. Your symptoms don't suggest tertiary syphilis to me. If you still have concerns, consult a specialist in STDs or infectious diseases.

: Discuss results of a CBC, differential and platelets with your physician.Nasal saline often relieves the ear symptom, and rinsing eyes with saline is also often effective. Avoid chemical,,smoke and allergic triggers such as pollen. Consider an ENT evaluation. 
Watch for signs of shortness of breath and fever.

Exam: Not necessarily: this may be related to other STDs- not a normal sign of primary syphilis. Make sure you have be treated and tested for all STDs. You must be retested and always use condoms.

: Scabies can be transmitted with using the same bed, towel, comb or any thing of personal use. It can cause intense itching then rash and blister. Hand should not transmit any other sexually transmitted diseases but if in doubt, testing is preferred over speculation. See your doctor for confirmation of scabies &amp; treatment. All beddings, shoes which can not be washed, put sealed bags for 6 weeks

Need more tests.: There are other infections that need to be looked for to explain the burning. Also, fragrances in anything, harsh soaps, can irritate the opening of the urethra &amp; cause burning, as can over-scrubbing.  Bleach spots may not be related.  See doc again.  Use products for sensitive skin (and your partner needs to, too). No fragrances, no aerosols, no alcohol-based products, no rough scrubbing, hot H20
