Here are some ...: Placing ureteral stent after transureteral procedures for stones or strictures or tumors, etc. is a common useful practice to prevent unwanted post-procedural ureteral obstruction; of course, it's judged by surgeon. 
At times, for small stone at lower part of ureter, stent may not be required. So, ask urologist for individual details timely.

Yes: The stent should be completely inside your body. It starts either in your kidney or just below it in your ureter. It ends in your bladder.

: "Ureteral stents" are usually placed secondary to ureteral stones or abdominal surgical injury. Wearing a tampon will not complicate this clinical situation, but followup with your urologist for continuing monitoring.

Dose increase: Check first with the doctor who prescribed it because tamsulosin may be increased to 0.8mg daily in 2 doses of 0.4 each.Hopefully you will get rid of the stent soon:)

Just don't worry: the purpose of the stent is severed ,  your doctor will just pull the string to remove the it . some need mild sedation brave one like you may not need one ! and few days of discomfort  and burning  Drink plenty of water . Ask your doctor before removal .

what is the smallest gauge cystoscope capable of being used for a ureteral stent removal for an adult male? can a patient request a smaller gauge cystoscope be used for their stent removal provided the working channel accommodates the tool required?

: Rely on the skill of the Dr doing the procedure and discuss with them. Unless you have been trained in Urology yourself.   ;-)

does a cystoscope for an adult male intended for ureteral stent removal have to be a certain gauge for functionality? wondering why they aren't made narrower for less urethral and psychological irritation/damage?

Accepted Answer

: The cystoscope size for removal is dependent on the size of the ureteral stent that was originally placed. It needs to be wide enough to encompass the stent in order to prevent tissue damage to the inside walls of the ureter and urethra. Talk to your Dr about using valium or another sedative in order to make this less psychologically difficult.

is severe acute procedural anxiety an acceptable medical necessity for general anethestia to be covered by insurance for a ureteral stent removal and vasectomy done at the same time? usually both recommend local, won't do either w/o general anesthesi?

: Each insurance company is different in how it covers general anesthesia for patients with severe acute procedural anxiety. Talk to your Dr who can contact your insurance for a Pre Procedure Authorization. If they cover it, they will authorize. If not, they will let you or the Dr know why not.
