If you suspect it: You need a throat culture with "chocolate agar", because one cannot tell clinically if it's gc or any other sore throat cause (virus or bacteria), but you need to know precisely so that the treatment is correct - routine oran ab's may not do the trick. It's embarassaing, but letting it get worse can lead to systemic spread to joints, meninges, so find out.

: Over 90% of oral gonorrhea causes no symptoms at all. When sore throat occurs, generally it is gone within 48 hours of treatment. If throat pain lasts longer, that does not indicate that treatment didn't work; more often it means that gonorrhea was the cause of the symptoms.

Usually no symptoms: Oral gonorrhea almost always (95% of the time)  is asymptomatic, with no sore throat at all. On the infrequent occasions it causes symptoms, they would not come and go. Also, cunnilingus -- oral-vaginal contact -- rarely transmits gonorrhea or other STDs. Most likely your symptoms are not from any infection from that exposure. But see a doctor if symptoms continue or you remain concerned.

Can't be sure: The only way to be sure if this is gonorrhea is being tested. You could be exposed in more than one area and only be symptomatic in one. If you suspect any std, your partner should be evaluated/treated as well. Good luck!

Two bad ideas: Gonorrhea of the throat is very common and a person owes it both to himself/herself and anybody else who's special to be treated at once. A kiss that's more than a peck can transmit the infection, and i suspect that it's often missed by physicians since there's no history of "oral sex". Love's beautiful and all really good lovers are responsible.

No certain numbers: Gonorrhea doesn't appear spontaneously, but comes from an infected person. Thus, if one's partner has no gonorrhea, the couple can have oral sex all month long and nobody gets gonorrhea. If one of them has the infection, we cannot predict how long before both are infected. In real life, it is not possible to tell one person's chances of catching gonorrhea... but he can ask his Dr. to test for it.
