It happens: You can kill off the germ, but it can take time for the tissue injury to settle down. Strep, it it was strep, can also coexist with other infecting agents like mono. Some of the worst looking throats I have ever seen were mono.

Good: Take the antibiotics and i hope you feel better soon -- and you can take tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen as instructed for the pain in your chest if necessary.

Depends: It depends on why your tonsils are large.

If your tonsils are enlarged suddenly due to a bacterial infection (tonsillitis) then you may need antibiotics.  If your tonsils are always large even when you are not sick, you could have them removed if you have sleep apnea. If only one tonsil is large, you should be seen by an ENT surgeon.

In the old days: We suggest gargling with warm salt water and possible mouthwash to reduce bacteria.  I am not sure how effective this is.  We dont do tonsillectomy anymore. 

I would go see an ENT specialist if your swollen tonsils persists.

Call Doctor: Can be caused by an infection such as strep or mono or severe allergic response.  The type of infection/condition  will dictate treatment.  Breathing may be affected and can make sleep apnea more severe.  Should see M.D. Right away for proper diagnosis and treatment.

No: Swollen tonsils can be simply enlarged tonsils to an infection of the tonsil. Energy drinks will not affect either of these conditions. See an ENT to find out what can be done with them. If you are chronically having strep you may need them removed.
