Sore throat: Prolonged syndrome such as you mention can still be primary herpes or other viral process but you should check back with your doctor. There are other possibilities too, some more serious.

rule out infection: A swollen parotid gland could be caused by mumps, (were you vaccinated?). It could also be caused by a stone impacted in the salivary gland which could lead to an infection. The swelling could also represent a tumor or lymphoma.

Not likely: A salivary gland infection is not very common and and it is also not very contagious.  You may have blocked salivary gland which will make it swollen and painful.  If it is not a salivary gland that is swollen but rather a lymph node, your mouth/oral/ respiratory infection is more contagious .

Needs examination: Could be secondary to infection of salivary gland, but could also be indication of tumor. 

Needs further examination by pcp or ENT doctor.
