Possibly: At node on the neurovascular bundle, that is carotid artery, jugular vein and vagus n.. is in essence a jugular vein node which most often represents possible pathology.  Frequently pharyngeal and thyroid lesions spread to this node.  Without biopsy, if the node is firm a diagnosis cant be made.  If an additional node or enlargement occurs then excisional biopsy needede

2cm lymph node on top of right carotid artery. has not grown in 1 year. is this okay as long as it does not grow or is it cutting off blood flow?

Probably ok: It's not cutting off circulation - your carotid artery is a thick walled, high pressure vessel that's not easily compressed. Lymph nodes in the neck are common and usually benign, but you should be carefully examined for other enlarged nodes in less common locations including on a chest x-ray before writing this 2 cm node off. The fact that it's not enlarging is very good.

i have a swollen lymph node on top of coroided artery right side. doc said its ok but i am always pushing to feel it. will pushing on arteries kill me?

No: If you push on both sides at the same time it can make you pass out, but casual pushing on one side will not hurt anything.

Easy does it, Steve: Most people have a visible vein on each side of the neck, especially when they're lying down, and most people's carotid arteries are visible. These have nothing to do with your lymph nodes. Do you have palpable nodes? A palpable tumor? Is it possible you're just physically fit and your neck structures are thus more visible? The vast majority of swollen nodes in a young guy like you are harmless.

i was randomly checking my clavicle for swollen lymph nodes and i pushed on something and got dizzy. did i push an artery? will i be ok?

No worry: If you push hard enough , this can happen. The great vessels in the neck can be more superficial in some people; especially in thin individuals.  I would not get overly concerned.

i am having laser tattoo removal on the back of my neck. i had my first session two weeks ago , its healing very well however i noticed a round hard painful lump at the base of my skull back of neck. swollen lymph node??

: You are likely correct. Any disturbance of the skin surface as would be in tattoo removal may trigger enlargement of local nodes that can persist for a few weeks.

Depends on location: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  They shrink when all is well.

Varies with cause: Enlarged lymphnodes may feel shotty, i.e. Like pellets under the skin; these may be rubbery, often due to lymphoma, may be soft and tender if due to infection and on its way to forming an abscess, lymphondes may be matted in case of TB and advanced metastatic tumors.
