Some people get swollen lips from contact allergies to cosmetics, lip balms, etc. Still others develop swollen lips as part of a condition called angioedema. This condition may be caused by thyroid or autoimmune diseases or even a virus.

The lip may break out in a cold sore.

Medication: Antihistamines can be very helpful. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) works well but can cause sleepiness. Other antihistamines like zyrtec, Allegra and Claritin also work well. In severe cases a doctor can prescribe oral steroids or an injection.

? Not allergy: Allergic reaction will fade away once the allergen is avoided or eliminated from the system, can't stay for three months unless you're continuously exposed, not the case. Kindly see your doctor, could be lip inflammation due to some other problem, wish you wellness

Hives: Hives and angioedema form when, in response to histamine, blood plasma leaks out of small blood vessels in the skin. Histamine is a chemical released from specialized cells along the skin's blood vessels.
Allergic reactions, chemicals in foods, insect stings, sunlight exposure, or medicines can all cause histamine release. Sometimes it's impossible to find out exactly why hives have formed.

Yes: It is probably in your child's best interest to have an epipen (epinephrine) available.  You never know what could be the next food to precipitate an allergic reaction.  You would not want to be without that protection should an allergic reaction be severe and life-threatening.  Yes it is easy to avoid blueberries, but similar foods could cause the same reaction.

i have itchy hives and swollen lips/glands. how many benadryl can i safely take? i just took 3 25mg pills.

300 mg/day: total dose of benadryl (diphenhydramine) from all sources. 75 mg every 6 hours is the maximum that you can take, preferably not to exceed 50 mg / dose. See your doctor if no improvement or getting worse, good luck

If your breathing : Is ok.  Call your doctor.  Maybe a Medrol dose pack with the Benadryl (diphenhydramine)  may help.   Try to find out what caused the reaction.    But if any breathing issues go to er
