Many possibilities: There are many causes of infections of the external ear other than piercings; but it can also be caused by a variety of noninfectious systemic or local dermatologic processes.  Your doctor should be able to tell you exactly what is causing the problem.

Which cartilage?: Ear?  High ear piercings through cartilage have ^ risk of infection ; lack of healing because of minimal blood supply to auricular cartilage.  You can develop a perichondral abscess as well auricular perichondritis. If you ear is hot, red, swollen or has increasing pain you need medical evaluation. This could be an infection.

I  believe i already: answered this but i would clean with peroxide (mixed with equal parts water) apply topical antibiotic and make appointment to see dermatologist if swelling doesn't decrease.

Swollen tragus: How long ago was the piercing? it may be infected and need antibiotics  and/ or removal of the piercing. Follow up today with doc/ urgent care.

Anti-Inflammatories: Anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen as well as icing can relieve swelling. If there is considerable redness and pain (and perhaps discharge), it may be infected and need medical attention.

Red? Swollen? Warm?: Pus? Tender? Swollen lymph nodes? If filled with pus - it is infected. Get this evaluated.

Probably infection: It's not necessary to get a tragus piercing to get infection there.  It's a nice cozy warm spot where bacteria can lounge and, if there's an opening, they can set up housekeeping, causing a small abscess.  Get it checked.  If it's abscessed, it should be lanced to drain out the pus.  Antibiotics might work if a more diffuse soft tissue infection.

: Yes. It is an antibacterial agent; an alternative would be triple antibiotic cream/ointment.
If the inflammation does not subside in a couple of days, consider taking out the piercing.

Depends: Was it a recent piercing? It's natural to have some swelling after an injury.  A cold compress on the area may help.

If the area is red, painful, and/or you have any discharge from the area it may possibly be infected. In that case you need to see your doctor.
