Parotid tumor: If this is in front of your ear.. It could be a tumor of the parotid gland. See your local ent.

Infection?: It could be that either you have a dental abscess or have a wisdom tooth trying to come in and it could be causing some issues in that area.  It might also be a number of issues related to your ears or your teeth or any of the many stuctures in that area.  You need to see a dentist or possible an ear nose & throat specialist as soon as you can.

Ice and exam: Ice it asap with a bag of ice covered with a washcloth. 10 min on 10 min. Off and get in for an exam asap to dentist or physician.

Lymphadenopathy: Has many different causes.  Probably the most common is a transient reaction secondary to a virus or other irritant.  Swelling that does not regress or is painful requires an in person evaluation by your physician.

i have a small firm swollen spot under my right ear, just behind my jaw. hardly any discomfort. what could this be?

Lump: It could be a lymph node.  Have you been sick recently, as that could be the cause.   However, if it's not gone in a couple of weeks, it's really important to get a doctor to look at it.

See PCP: Did/does this happen just as you start to eat? Anything seem to trigger it? It could be from lymph node(s) or the corner of the parotid saliva gland in this area. I suggest seeing an ENT, Oral surgeon, your dentist or your PCP to start with.

MAY BE INFECTION: May be you have an abscess of the face, but it needs to be checked to make diagnosis, it may  be something else as well.

No.: Can get referred pain to the ear from a throat or jaw issue. Best tp see your otolaryngologist for exam, diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
