what medication can i use for cat bite/puncture wound to reduce swelling?

Go to ER for eval.: Infection rate from cat bites is high. You may need antibiotics.  If you haven't had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years or your don't know - then you will a need another tetanus shot. Get prompt care. This can quickly become a serious problem.

when does the redness and warmth from cellulitis go away? i have been on augmentin for almost 2 weeks for infected cat bite. redness, swelling, and warmth improving but redness, and some warmth remain. is this something to be worried about?

: You might actually have another problem{with your vascular system}, either stasis dermatitis or even, though more rare, thrombophlebitis. See your dermatologist for evaluation and possibly an alternative treatment. Also, the alleged infection may be caused by an organism that is not susceptible to Augmentin.

after wrist cat bite, saw two tiny white strings poke out of wound. what was that? pain/swelling slowly improving on augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) but tendon is sore.

Cat bite: The two white strings may be part of a partially torn tendon. Consult a hand surgeon or an orthopedist

cat bite, not very deep puncture wounds but bled. indoor cat , last vac 2/3yrs? i take doxycycline 100mg x2 for epidymis 20 days now is this ok for bites or change to coamoxiclav or can take both? i can't see dr until mon. thanks?

: No antibiotic at all is required for the cat bite. In the unlikely event of an infection, doxycycline would be preferred; you can assume you are protected from any infection of importance.

hello my cat has fleas and is being treated as well as my home this weekend.... but i'm getting bit, what can i do or use as a repellant for them and what can i use to stop the itching a swelling besides ice?

: Besides ice, you can use lidocaine 4% cream or ointment for relieving the itch, better than hydrocortisone 1% cream, both are OTC products.

Serious: Did you take antibiotics and is your tetanus shot up to date.The  flora in the mouth of the cat includes Pasteurella, Staph, Bartonella, and Streptococcus species plusBites from cats develop infections more frequently than bites from dogs. That is because teeth of a cat are sharp, pointed and can cause deep wounds. If not see someone.Also if unvaccinated can have rabies.

Discuss at postop: It's difficult to assess your wound from your description alone and it may be best to discuss with your surgeon at the time of your postop examination which i assume should be soon. Other signs to call him/her earlier would be infection or bleeding or drainage.
