Local swelling: Are you asking about the feeling of being swollen or actually being swollen from the injection? Swelling from an injection is very uncommon so if you are swollen see your dentist. If you are asking about the feeling of being swollen(numb) the drug is detox'd in the liver so a good brisk walk with a good cup of coffee should help reduce the swollen feeling to an hour or so after leaving the office.

Not likely: It's extremely unlikely for General Anesthesia to cause these symptoms- but very common for opioid based pain medications to cause constipation- and nearly every general anesthetic / surgery is accompanied by opioid pain meds-  though 3 days out probably not related to that either, so much as any Norco/Percocet/hydrocodone, etc.  you may have been taking after surgery for pain.

i went for root canal treatment and today i discovered swelling. my dr. says its due to the reaction af anesthesia.is it critical. m worried about it?

Local anesthesia: When we give local anesthesia, especially with an infiltration injection, the tissue may temporarily swell from the slow infiltration of the fluid. Less commonly, a hematoma may form which will take longer to dissipate. As long as the swelling is not from an untreated infection, you will be fine.

It could be: But without knowing exactly what treatment was performed, and without being able to see you, how can anyone really tell? Why not call your treating dentist for a follow-up? They will have a better idea as to what may be needed to solve your problem.

Transient: Parasthesia or temporary lack of sensation due to the tissue injury and inflammation.
Rec.: see your dentist for post-op evaluation. Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack is warranted in these cases.

Sorry : Sorry about your problem and thanks for your picture. Posters don't often do that and we are left guessing as to what is going on.

You son's lip was already inflammed from the biting, and his sister's foot added insult to injury.

You assume it is infected, but that is hard to tell from the picture. An infection would involve bacterial infiltration... He just seems bruised.

What do you give him if he has a fever or isn't feeling well? I cannot recommend what to use, but an otc children's medication for aches, pains, or fever should help with any pain and some of the swelling. Also putting a few ice cubes in a towel and intermittently placing the towel on and off the bruise should help with the swelling.

Ask your 24 pharmacist at your local pharmacy to recommend the meds.

See how he does overnight and take him to your pediatrician in the morning if things aren't any better. I don't think the er physicians would do much more for you at this hour.

Check electrolytes: After a major surgery like parathyroidectomy, significant electrolyte chnages can take place presenting as generalized swelling or swellig of the dependent parts of the body. Thyroid function should also be checked. Better see your surgeon for follow up.

Unlikely: Asbestos usually dies not cause acute symptoms. Breathing or eating for a while can cause disease.
With a three year old get good pediatric and or ENT exam.
Many more common causes exist.
