Yes: Yes. It works faster when chewed but, if you're not in a hurry, swallowing is fine.  (if you're taking it everyday, you have an Aspirin effect already so there's no hurry, but when people are having chest pain and not on Aspirin or their status isn't known, chewing gets it into their system faster).

Chew it: Chewing any medication will break it up and help speed absorption. Additionally, many forms of Aspirin have an "enteric coating" which effectively delays absorption and thus delays the effect of the medicine.

I don't agree with: this recommendation. Given your cardiac history and potential for PFO I think you should be on low dose ASA daily as you are doing. Perhaps an enteric coated one would avoid the stomach burn otherwise I would not change.

is it ok to take diamox (acetazolamide) and low dose aspirin? also, if i stop taking diamox (acetazolamide) how long before it 'leaves my system' so i can take aspirin or the like?

Acetazolamide &amp; ASA: Serious complications have been reported with concomitant use of Acetazolamide &amp; high dose aspirin. An alternative to Acetazolamide may be an option if aspirin is a necessity. Low dose aspirin may be used while under regular observation by a physician. Acetazolamide clears the body within 1 to 2 days and aspirin can be stated within a day as instructed by your doctor.

Not from aspirin: Are you on anticoagulation med? If your purple splotches are mostly arms + hands, then it is senile purpura which is due to thin/ fragile senile skin. Aspirin does not do this. Plavix, coumidin, Eliquis, etc. may cause senile purpura to be worse. Enteric coating aspirin does not make it safer but makes it ineffective half the time.
