Not the treatment: Back when we treated gonorrhea with oral drugs, we used a single dose. But now there's too much drug resistance, so the recommended treatment is a single shot of ceftriaxone, 250 mg

Single dose: Cefixime (Suprax) is no longer recommended as routine gonorrhea treatment; a shot of ceftriaxone is the drug of choice. However, cefixime still is usually effective. The recommended dose is 400 mg single dose, i.e. take all at once. It always must be combined with a second antibiotic, usually azithromycin single dose or doxycycline for 7 days. Check with the doc or clinic treating you.

Not reliable: Azithromycin in this dose usually would work, but it's not reliable. Cefixime + azithromycin is better, but even that isn't recommended any more. You should also have a shot ceftriaxone. Gonorrhea is dangerous. Without proper treatment, it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID, fallopian tube infection), which can make you infertile. Stop screwing around with this:  see a doctor ASAP.

Best together...: ...but it would be OK as long as they are taken within 1-2 days of each other. If longer than that, I would recommend re-treatment with both antibiotics at the same time. However, cefixime is no longer recommended as the treatment of choice. It usually still works fine, but best to have a ceftriaxone injection (plus azithromycin or doxycycline).

: Several antibiotics work well against gonorrhea in single doses, nothing unusual about cefixime. Treatment of choice is ceftriaxone by injection but oral cefixime works well. As it happens, I was the lead investigator on the original research showing the effectiveness of cefixime for gonorrhea. Crushing: Crushing a tablet does not destroy it.  As long as you get all the contents in it should work. Suprax is indicated for goneorrhea and it should work crushed or whole as long as you get all the contents into your stomach and it gets absorbed.

Ask doctor: You can ask your doctor for clarification although the usual dose for gonorrhea is 400 mg one time.

Suprax (cefixime): Should be effective against gonorrhea, but it depends on locality.  If your doctor prescribed it, it is probably effective against your local strain.  400mg is 400mg no matter how many pills you take, so you should be ok.  Just use condom next time.

Family practice : Take it as directed til gone. If you don't the bacteria may develope resistance.
