is there something i can do to recover from a facial sunburn due to acne medication?

Lotion and ibuprofen: First make sure this is not an allergic reaction to the medication itself. That would generally be more spread out beyond the area that was exposed to the sun and typically would occur early in the course - within the first couple of days of starting  the medicine. If it is due to the photosensitivity from the medicine then treat with aloe, lotions, and Ibuprofen (motrin or advil).

my 22year old daughter has a 2nd degree sunburn.  we have neen treating it with liticane & alovera spray and oral pain medication.?

Sounds good: You can overdose on lidocaine, though, so be careful.  Also, second degree means blisters -- if you can, do not pop them.  The fluid inside is sterile.  It's better if they deflate on their own.  Once they open, the roof should be removed to avoid infection, and the wounds covered with topical antibiotic (neosporin or silvadene) to decrease scarring.

whenever i go out to the sun, even if it is only for a short period, i get really bad sunburn as if i had exposed myself for quite a long time. what could be causing this?  i am not taking any medications or supplements except vitamin d?

Accutane: Even though you. May be wearing sunblock getting sunburned will dry your skin out even worse than Accutane alone.

Sunburn: Stay out of the sun. Protect your skin with sunblock, wear hats and don't sunbathe.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Keep sunburn cool with moist cool/cold compresses.  Avoid alcohol containing products.  Break off pieces of aloe vera plant & apply sap to  skin.  Consider non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds to reduce pain.  Don’t yank off peeling skin or burst blisters. Seek medical care for severe pain, fever, lack of improvement of symptoms within several days or if a large surface area is blistered.

Two days to One Week: The location of sunburn and your skin type determine the duration.  Face sunburns can fade within 2-3 days while backs, chest, and arms can take a week.  It is most important to avoid repeated sunburns as this can prolong recovery and add to skin cancer risk.
A sunburn is a wake up call to remind you that your skin should not go unprotected in the future.  See a dermatologist if your not healed.
