Usually ulna nerve: Elbow pain can come from many sources. It depends on what part of your elbow hurts. However, the most common elbow pain in your age group will be ulna nerve neuritis.
To determine the exact reason i would recommend seeing an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the treatment of elbow problems. Good luck.

Check ulnar nerve: Ulnar nerve entrapment at the elbow ( or other nerve syndromes) can radiate down your arm and give you numbness and tingling. Working out can exacerbate this either because you are flexing at the elbow or because of the repetitive impact. Yo should have it checked out by a hand surgeon.

Trauma: This is usually trauma but not necessarily severe to the ulnar nerve. Simple contusion can do this. If you also rest your arm on the elbow area this may be the cause. See your doctor for the exam and treatment.

Neurogenic pain: The symptoms described sound s like a nerve entrapment pain. It is common to get shooting pains from the shoulder to the elbow when a nerve gets pinched in the upper back and shoulder region. Visit a doctor to see whether you need an MRI to evaluate further

See an Orthopod: You could have just bruised the bone but if still painful you might have torn the muscles off the bone or the ucl. You need a good examination by an orthopaedic surgeon.

Tennis elbow?: It is more likely to be due to stretching of the ulnar nerve or some ligament issues. Elbow pain by itself is not a sign of heart disease.

had open carpal tunnel surgery on my left wrist in 09/2014. as of late i have been having inner elbow pain and middle finger only pain. any ideas?

Golfer's elbow is: tendinitis of the muscles that attach to the medial side of the humerus at the elbow.  The ulnar nerve passes just behind, so if you are having numbness of the pinky finger, you are having symptoms of compression of that nerve. Nerve pain going down the arm can be from the tendinitis itself but also that the strap may be too tight.  Resting the activity that caused the injury is important.

RICE!: Rest, ice, compression (ace wrap), elevation.  Also add an NSAID like ibuprofen.  If the pain continues see a physician.
