The size is importan: A 6 y/o may have a submental node or two normally, but they are usually small, smaller than 1/2 inch. When it is infected, it may be red and/or tender. It is extremely rare for a small child to have a cancer in the submental node only. A viral infection as the cause is a possibility. It may be a lymph node, but maybe a thyroglossal cyst if it is in the midline. I would have a doctor take a look.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It may be necessary to remove the lump and send the tissue to a pathologist for examination.

Usual: There are many there.
If tender, relates to some inflammation in the area, or sometimes a viral illness like mono.
If non tender and enlarging , some other concerns.
Supraclavicular can relate to pulmonary or intra thoracic issue.
See your pcp and perhaps some x-rays and occasionally even a biopsy if indicated.

Infection?: The major function of lymph nodes is to help eradicate infection and those lymph nodes can remain enlarged weeks to longer even after the infection is gone. If you did not have an infection or any other specific reason for lymph node enlargement you should see medical attention to make sure nothing else is wrong. Good luck

Right side swelling: Probably not circulatory as there is nothing on my mind that would explain it. Wonder if there may be dental issues going on. When you say labs are ok, not sure which ones are ok and sometimes they may be ok but the problem may still exist. If lymph nodes are enlarged, ultrasound may be helpful or even a biopsy. I've had cases when labs were ok but the biopsy was revealing.

are you supposed to be able to feel lymph nodes in neck? i can feel a few in my submandibular/submental regions. all are either 1cm or smaller. i've heard conflicting views on this. 25yo f. healthy.

Yes palpable: Lymph nodes 1 cm and smaller are generally ok.  You may just be noticing them and they were always there.  If you are otherwise healthy then it should be ok.  In nm you may be exposed to different pollens and ground soil bacteria.  Your lymph nodes protect you.  Hope this helps.
