Staging.: When a rectal or colon lesion is evaluated for risk, we look at staging.  This is determined by the size and extent of the primary tumor, whether lymph nodes are involved, and whether there are more distant metastases.  The higher the stage, the greater the risk.  Rectal tumors often are treated with chemotherapy and radiation before surgery if advanced.  Positive nodes is stage 3.

my husband had polyps in his rectum and sigmoid colon. they were taken out by using a snare and were biospied showing to be malignant. he then had another rectal exam and biopsy of the cell walls this showed that the it did not spread into the lymph nodes

Not sure: What is your question. Lymph node status can only be detected possibly with ct or pet scan and surgical specimen removal, that is, after colon &/or rectal resection.

i had a colonoscopy 4 days ago and l'm getting pain inside my rectum and a bit of mucus leaking. previously had a perirectal abcess where the pain is.

Possible recurrence: Colonoscopy requires cleaning of bowel with a form of laxative followed by distention of bowel by forcing gas up the rectum.  If there was a previous abscess the new signs may represent recurrence of the abscess and this followed by passage of residual irrigant used to clean bowel.

Lymph nodes: Lymph node enlargement has many causes, infection, inflammation, spread of cancer, for example.  However, not every enlarged lymph node necessarily means something is wrong.  Your body's normal immune system responses sometimes result in enlarged lymph nodes.

Would suggest : That you get a colonoscopy to start with.  With pain in that region and an enlarged node, you need to exclude rectal cancer.

No: Just because you have hpv infection does not mean you have cancer. Certain hpv infection inceases your risk to have certain cancer like cervical cancer, anal cancer and head and neck cancer. That is why vaccination and eradication of hpv infection are important. Sigmoiditis-means inflammation of the sigmoid colon and infection/inflammation can cause swelling of the lymph node. Discuss with your md.

Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad  like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.  That term means &lt; 1cm.
