Not available in USA: Strontium ranelate is not approved for use in the USA.  Studies in Europe suggest it helps prevent fractures but long term safety is an issue.  There are better drugs available.

Unlikely: Generally, an interval DEXA scan is not suggested for a minimum of 18 to 24 months.  Certainly a mistake  is always possible...
1. Was this done on the same DEXA machine?
2. Same locations and technician?

As such, your replacement with strontium appears to have helped build bone mass and that's why you see an improvement.

Bone strength: Cannot say that this works better than other proven supplements.  No good studies to indicate that supplements have positive bone effects.

Your T-score: Shows significant bone loss in the spine and increased risk for fractures. Since strontium ranelate is not approved for use in the U.S., very few  american doctors have much experience with the drug. Check w/your prescribing physician.

Bones: Although there is at least one study which suggests that strontium ranelate may have a beneficial effect on the degeneration of spinal discs, by far the most well documented effect of strontium is on bones.  Be aware that in europe, the use of strontium has been restricted due to evidence of increased cardiac risks with its use.

See below: It has been said. That strontium can increase bone density test, but this may appear more impressive than it really is because strontium in bone can affect bone density interpretation.  Radiologist needs to be informed if you are taking strontium.
