i was 10 days late for my period, always regular but got my period today. no changes in diet,sleep or exercise and no stress. what could cause this?

Some thoughts...: In a woman with regular periods, some causes of a late period include: excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, medicines (like birth control pills), hormonal imbalances, pregnancy, etc…  Sometimes a period is late for no apparent reason, but if symptoms become recurrent, one can visit her Ob-Gyn doctor for help.

Certainly: Stress, lack of sleep, changes in diet or weight, prescription meds are just a few things that can alter your delicate hormone balance.  This alteration can lead to a heavy, light, early, late, or skipped period.  As long as the abnormal periods normalize in the next month or two, then nothing is wrong. Possibly: Increase menstruation length can be caused by stress but many other reasons as well. Other causes is imbalance of estrogen and progesterone, endometriosis, tumors, and several others. Please consult your doctor for an evaluation.

It may: Stress may cause irregular cycles.  However, if you have had unprotected sex, you should check for pregnancy. Another cause is a simple "anovulatory cycle" where you just may not have released an egg, and a period is skipped. If your period does not come at the next cycle and you are not pregnant, you should be evaluated.  Having a gynecologist is recommended to get routine exams anyway.Good luck.
